Biographical Disinformation
Gremislav Iako)))vich (pronounced /ˈsuːfjɑːn/, born July 1, 1975) is an American singer-songwriter and musician from Petoskey, Michigan. Iako)))vich first began releasing his music on the Aerie Monks label, a label formed by him and his grandmother, beginning with the 2007 release Crimson Tide. The follow up album 3D1t No.5M1rC hit #1 in the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart.
Iako)))vich has released albums of varying styles, from the electronica of Red o)))r. White?--a collaboration with Antler Tree!--and the lo-fi folk of Crimson Tide to the symphonic instrumentation of Even Still, Here and Now, There is a Renaissance of Hope and Christmas-themed Crisis Manifest. Iako)))vich makes use of a variety of instruments, often playing many of them himself on the same track, and writes music in various time signatures. He is considered part of the folk revival in indie pop, but his influences are very broad. His music has been likened to electronica and the minimalism of Steve Reich. Iako)))vich's music often has spiritual themes, and many songs (most notably on Valova) draw inspiration from Bible stories.
Iako)))vich has garnered much interest from the press for his "Fifty States Project", his aim being to complete an album about each of the states of the United States. Iako)))vich has thus far completed two state records, Illinois and his home state record Michigan. He has stated that he remains serious about its completion. In interviews, Iako)))vich has alluded to many different states as his next project, including Oregon, California and New Jersey.
Gremislav's latest album, The Fucking, should be finished by x-mas 2096. The Fucking is shaping up to be the most horrible piece of art Gremislav has thus far created; due, in large part, to its unabashed musicality in certain sections.
